Hair Dye Lowers Thyroid Function
Oh Hair Dye!! How I love you and loathe you!!
I love that it exists and I hate that I feel the need to use it!
Many people with thyroid disease will find that we have early grey hair. By that I mean as early as our 20's. (I think I was in my early 30's)
If we look at Traditional Chinese Medicine it could be due to the kidney deficiency that is associated with thyroid disease and the kidneys appear to be the governer of grey hair. Now I'm no Chinese Medicine Expert, but this is my understanding from reading.
So I guess from this point of view then, supporting the kidneys is probably as important as supporting the thyroid pathway. Let's face it, symptoms such as grey hair is really just a message from our body after all.
Traditional Hair Dye contains tin (to make our hair shiny) which stops the conversion of our inactive T4 thyroid hormone into T3 our active hormone. So constantly putting it into our body is clearly going to have an ongoing affect to our thyroid health.
So what do we do if we don't want to be grey in our 20's? Well, I have done the chemical dyes, the not-so chemical dyes, the henna and now I have found organic.
The Henna that I did myself, ended up causing a build up in my hair and giving it a really unhealthy appearance, so after using that for a while I went back to the store-bought not so chemical dye (that still contained tin 😕
Then one day I was at my organic beauty salon and in between waxing the left eyebrow and the right eyebrow, my waxer told me about a hair salon AROUND THE CORNER that was fully organic 😳
Imagine my shock that there was someone on my doorstep!! AND they were organic!!!!!
Off I took myself and discovered that they used a fully organic range of shampoos, conditioners, hairdyes, mouses and spray!!
So that is where I am at. Sadly I am so grey now that even 4 weeks apart to have my roots done is seemingly not enough. But that's between you and me. To everyone else I'm positive my hair looks like it is still 20 years old 🤣
Tell me what do you use? Or are you loving life with your natural fabulous grey/white/ shade? 2 gorgeous women I know and love recently embraced their grey and they look AMAZING! I was looking at a photo of one of them and thinking she looked so much prettier with her natural grey and that's when it occured to me that we will have been given the perfect shade for us surely?!!
Until I'm brave enough.....
Love & Hugs
